Wines and food are without doubt one of Italy and Lombardy's attractions. Lake Como has lots of places to dine and sample wines. Most of these are fairly conspicuous, the best are used by locals and those in the know. Cantina Follie is one of the latter and tucked away in the centre of Tremezzo.

Just when you thought you knew where all the best watering holes are to be found, another appears and this one is something quite special. (editor). The hosts are excellent, the location, quite secret and the ambience, great! We spent a wonderful evening in this bar with friends and would thoroughly recommend it to anybody.

Tremezzo is a Grandiose place and anyone visiting Villa Carlotta who wishes to have a light lunch or supper with an excellent selection of wines should not just look at the roadside restaurants but explore one street up!

Finding this Bar or Vineria

If you enter Tremezzo from the Menaggio end, drive past Villa Carlotta, carry on to the set of shops and park opposite on the Lake side in the parking bays. Tucked in between the shops are sets of steps next to the Pharmacy. Walk up these to Via A. Volta and Cantina Follie is just to your right. See this map.

The following is taken from the owners brochure (Deborah and Joost are the hosts and speak English, Italian and Dutch) and is understated.

"Welcome to Cantina Follie, a wine bar in the cellar of an old house in the town centre of Tremezzo. Here you may sample wines in the cellar or outside on the terrace under a grape vine, accompanied by cold cuts of wines and cheeses.

You may also buy wines to take away and enjoy on your return; something to make your trip more memorable."
